Past, Present & Elsewhere

Three albums. One room. Start to finish.

A weekly listening session at Revelry Room exploring music across time, place, and perspective.

Each Tuesday we gather to play three full albums from beginning to end. No shuffle. No skipping. Just the record as it was meant to be heard.

A Living Room for Music

Some of the most powerful music experiences don’t happen in clubs or concert halls.

They happen in living rooms.

Friends gather. Someone puts on a new record. The album plays all the way through while people listen, talk, laugh, and sometimes dance between songs.

That experience is the inspiration behind Past, Present & Elsewhere.

Revelry Room was intentionally designed to feel like a family room. Revelry Room founder Derek Moon often talks about growing up in a home where new records were the main event. Friends and neighbors would sit together and listen to albums from start to finish while sharing food, stories, and conversation.

This program brings that tradition back into the room.

A Book Club for Audiophiles

Past, Present & Elsewhere works a lot like a book club.

Instead of reading a book, we listen to an album.

Each session presents three full albums played from beginning to end, creating a conversation between different eras, artists, and scenes.

Some guests sit quietly with the music. Others talk about favorite tracks between songs. There is no single way to participate.

The goal is simply to give the album the space it deserves.

The Format

Each session features three albums that explore music across time and place.

Past

A record that helped shape the culture. This might be a classic album, an influential release, or a hidden gem that defined a particular sound or moment.

Present

A newer release representing where the music is today. These albums highlight artists actively shaping the current sound of soul, R&B, hip hop, and related genres.

Elsewhere

The wildcard. This album might come from another country, another scene, or another genre entirely. It expands the listening experience and introduces something unexpected.

What Happens When You Arrive

Past, Present & Elsewhere takes place every Tuesday evening at Revelry Room.

Each session typically runs about two to three hours depending on the albums selected.

When you sit down you’ll find a printed listening menu at your table introducing the evening’s selections.

The albums play sequentially throughout the evening while guests enjoy cocktails, conversation, and the shared listening experience.

Think of it as settling into someone’s living room while they share three records they love.

The Listening Environment

Revelry Room was designed first and foremost as a space for music.

The sound system features Mackie powered monitors supported by a dedicated subwoofer and tuned specifically for the room. Acoustic treatment by Twilight Sounds helps maintain a balanced and comfortable listening experience.

While Revelry Room is not a traditional hi-fi listening bar, it is a space intentionally designed for music to sound present and immersive.

Most sessions currently play from high quality digital sources, though vinyl selections will appear as the program evolves.

Curated by Community

As the program grows, Past, Present & Elsewhere will also feature guest curators.

DJs, collectors, musicians, writers, and music lovers will occasionally be invited to select the three albums for an evening and guide the listening journey.

Each curator will bring their own perspective on how past, present, and elsewhere connect.
